Why this exists
Lonely in a room full of people.
I was at dinner with people I love and realized nobody was actually there. Everyone was on their phone. Including me. We were together and completely alone at the same time.
That's not a willpower problem. It's a design problem. The phone is engineered to win every contest for your attention, and it does, every time. So we stopped asking people to resist it and started taking it out of the room.
Lantern Club is my answer. One night a month, phones go in the pouch at the door, and for two hours you're just a person again. Making things. Talking. The way it used to feel before every room had a screen in it.
I'm Spencer. I'm 18. I started this because I was tired of feeling lonely in rooms full of people, and I figured I wasn't the only one.
Every night has one rule: the phone stays in the pouch. Everything else is clay, conversation, music, and people who showed up to actually be there.
